Heat is the enemy of every electronic component inside your microwave. The cavity, the magnetron, the high-voltage capacitor, the control board — they all produce or are sensitive to heat. And when a microwave can’t release that heat properly, things start to break.

The most common reason for overheating? Blocked vents and dust buildup. Most microwaves have vents on the top, sides, or back. Those vents let heat and steam escape. When grease, dust, or even wall cabinet buildup blocks those vents, the heat has nowhere to go.
