Fridge repair that fixes the cause

A fridge that runs warm can spoil a week of groceries in a day, so we treat refrigerator calls as urgent and offer same-day visits whenever a technician and parts are available.* We repair French-door, side-by-side, bottom- and top-freezer, counter-depth and built-in refrigerators, plus upright and chest freezers, bar fridges and wine coolers, in houses, condos and businesses across the GTA.

Most fridge faults come down to a handful of parts: the fans, the defrost system, the controls, the water system or the compressor. We test each one before replacing anything, so you pay for the part that actually failed. When the fault is in the sealed system, we can replace the compressor and recharge the refrigerant in your kitchen instead of sending you shopping for a new fridge.

Types of refrigerators we repair

Every style of home refrigerator and freezer, from every major brand.

Stainless French-door refrigerator with two upper doors, a pull-out freezer drawer and an ice and water dispenser

French-door

Two doors on top, a freezer drawer below. Common fixes: in-door ice makers, water dispensers, frost in the freezer drawer and a warm fresh-food section.

Stainless side-by-side refrigerator with full-height freezer and fridge doors and an ice and water dispenser

Side-by-side

Full-height fridge and freezer doors. We repair dispensers, ice makers, defrost faults and uneven cooling.

Stainless bottom-freezer refrigerator with a single fridge door above a pull-out freezer drawer

Bottom-freezer

Fridge on top, pull-out freezer below. We handle defrost problems, fans, drawer slides, door seals and frost build-up.

White top-freezer refrigerator with a small freezer door above the main fridge door

Top-freezer

The classic two-door fridge. Usually simple to fix: thermostats, defrost parts, fans and door seals.

Stainless built-in refrigerator installed flush with white shaker cabinets

Built-in & panel-ready

Flush with your cabinets, from brands like Miele, Bosch and KitchenAid. We work carefully around custom panels and cabinetry.

Compact stainless bar fridge installed under a white quartz countertop

Bar & compact fridges

Under-counter and apartment-size units. We’ll tell you honestly when a small unit costs less to replace than to repair.

Dual-zone wine cooler with a glass door and wine bottles on wooden shelves

Wine & beverage coolers

Single- and dual-zone coolers. We fix temperature swings, noisy fans, failed displays and door seals.

White upright freezer standing next to a white chest freezer

Upright & chest freezers

Stand-alone freezers in garages, basements and businesses. We fix units that stop freezing, frost up or run all the time.

Fridge Not Cooling

Warm fresh-food section, freezer still cold, or both warm

When the freezer is still cold but the fridge section is warm, the cold air isn’t reaching the fridge. That usually points to a stopped evaporator fan or a defrost fault that has iced over the coils. If both sections are warm and the compressor is silent or clicking, the cause is more likely the start components, the control board or the compressor itself.

Problems we fix most

  • Fridge warm, freezer still cold
  • Both sections warm
  • Runs constantly but never gets cold enough
  • Clicking from the back every few minutes
  • Food freezing in the fridge section

Quick check

Make sure the vents inside aren’t blocked by food, the condenser coils underneath or behind aren’t caked in dust, and the condenser fan at the back is spinning. Then note your model number from the label inside the fridge.

How we diagnose a fridge that won’t cool

We check the condenser fan and coils, then test the evaporator fan, the defrost heater, sensor and control, and the temperature sensors. Only when those check out do we test the start relay, the inverter board where fitted, and the compressor.

Refrigerator Compressor Replacement & Sealed System Repair

Compressors, inverter boards, refrigerant leaks and recharges

When a fridge stops cooling everywhere, the compressor often gets the blame before anything has been tested. We prove it first. If the compressor or another part of the sealed system has failed, we replace it in your home: we recover the refrigerant, braze in the new compressor and filter-drier, pull a deep vacuum and recharge to the maker’s specification. On a good French-door, counter-depth or built-in fridge, that is often well worth doing. LG compressor replacement is one of our most common repairs.

Problems we fix most

  • Fridge and freezer both warm
  • Compressor clicks on and off but won’t run
  • Compressor runs non-stop, nothing gets cold
  • Oily residue around the tubing
  • Cooling fades a few hours after a restart

Warranty check

Many manufacturers cover the compressor for longer than the rest of the fridge. If yours is fairly new, check that warranty first. We can still diagnose it and tell you what has failed.

How we diagnose a compressor or sealed-system fault

We rule out the fans, defrost system and controls, then measure the compressor windings, the start components and, on inverter models, what the board sends to the compressor. For leaks we pressure-test and find the leak before recharging, because topping up a leaking system only hides the problem.

Frost Build-Up & Defrost Problems

Frost on the freezer’s back wall, iced-up fans, water under the crisper drawers

Frost-free fridges melt the frost off their evaporator coils several times a day. When the defrost heater, its sensor or the control fails, frost keeps building until it blocks the airflow, and the fridge slowly warms up. Clearing the ice only buys a few days, so we replace the failed defrost part at the same visit.

Technician steaming ice off the evaporator fan and coils inside a side-by-side freezer in a Toronto kitchen

Problems we fix most

  • Thick frost on the freezer’s back panel
  • Fan noise or scraping from the freezer
  • Fridge cools again after being unplugged, then warms up
  • Ice on the freezer floor
  • Water pooling under the crisper drawers

Good to know

If unplugging the fridge for a day brings the cooling back for a while, that’s a strong sign of a defrost fault. Book a visit before the ice builds up again.

How we diagnose a defrost problem

We look at the frost pattern first, then test the defrost heater, the defrost sensor or thermostat, and the control or timer that runs the cycle. A blocked defrost drain causes the water and ice under the drawers, and we clear it during the same visit.

Ice Maker & Water Dispenser Repair

Door and freezer ice makers, dispensers, filters and water lines

No ice, slow water and a dripping dispenser are some of the most common fridge calls we get. The cause can be as simple as a clogged or unrecognized filter, or a door water line that has frozen. Door-mounted ice makers also ice up when their heaters or fans fail, which is a well-known weak point on many French-door fridges.

Technician removing the ice bucket from the door ice maker of a French-door refrigerator

Problems we fix most

  • Ice maker stopped making ice
  • Ice bucket frozen solid
  • Water dispenser slow or not working
  • Dispenser leaking or dripping
  • Ice tastes or smells off

Before you book

Check that the filter is genuine and fully seated, that the ice maker is switched on, and that the water valve to the fridge is open.

How we diagnose ice and water problems

We check the filter, the water inlet valve and the water pressure, then the door water line and the ice maker’s motor, heater and fan. On door ice makers we also look for the ice build-up that jams the auger and the chute.

Parts we often replaceIce maker assemblyWater inlet valveWater filter housingIce room fanIce pipe heaterAuger motorDispenser switch

Water Leaks & Noisy Fridges

Puddles on the floor, water inside the fridge, buzzing, clicking and rattling

Water on the floor usually comes from one of three places: a cracked or loose water line, a leaking inlet valve or filter housing, or a blocked defrost drain that sends meltwater out of the fridge. Noise has its own short list of causes, from a worn fan motor to a compressor that struggles to start.

Technician replacing the water filter inside a French-door refrigerator in a Toronto kitchen

Problems we fix most

  • Puddle under or in front of the fridge
  • Water pooling inside the fridge
  • Buzzing or humming that won’t stop
  • Rattling or scraping from the freezer
  • Loud clicking at the back

If water is spreading

Turn off the fridge’s water supply valve, usually under the sink or behind the fridge, and lay towels down. A leak that reaches the unit below is the bigger cost in a condo.

How we track down leaks and noises

We trace the water back to its source, checking the supply line, the inlet valve, the filter housing and the defrost drain. For noise, we listen with the panels off to find the fan, motor or component that’s making it before we replace anything.

Parts we often replaceWater inlet valveWater lineFilter housingDefrost drainDrain panEvaporator fan motorCondenser fan motor

Door Seals, Lights & Controls

Gaskets, hinges, door alarms, displays and control boards

A door that doesn’t seal lets warm, moist air in, which shows up as frost, condensation and a compressor that never rests. Door alarms that won’t stop, dead displays and lights that stay off usually trace back to a switch, a sensor or the control board.

Problems we fix most

  • Door doesn’t close or seal
  • Condensation around the door
  • Door alarm keeps going off
  • Display blank or unresponsive
  • Interior lights not working

Quick check

Close the door on a sheet of paper. If it slides out easily, the gasket isn’t sealing at that spot. A fridge that tilts slightly back also helps the doors swing shut on their own.

How we diagnose door and control faults

We check the gasket and hinges, the door switches and how the fridge is levelled, then test the sensors, the display and the main control board.

Codes vary by model, so we always confirm the fault with a test. A fan code often means ice is blocking the fan, which is a defrost problem to fix too. More codes in our refrigerator error code guide.

Repair or replace your fridge?

Usually worth repairing

  • It’s under about 10 years old
  • The fault is a fan, defrost part, ice maker, valve, sensor or board
  • It’s a French-door, counter-depth or built-in model that would be costly to replace
  • The cabinet, doors and liners are in good shape

Worth weighing a replacement

  • It’s well past 15 years old and the compressor has failed
  • The inner liner is cracked or the cabinet is rusting through
  • Repairs keep coming back on an older, basic top-freezer model
  • Parts are no longer available for the model

Most refrigerators last somewhere around 10 to 15 years. You get a written price before any work starts, so you can make the call with real numbers rather than guesses.

Refrigerator repair questions

How much does refrigerator repair cost in Toronto?

It depends on the part and the fridge. The diagnostic is free when you go ahead with the repair, and the technician gives you a written price before any work starts, so there are no surprises. New customers also get $25 off the repair.

Can you come the same day?

Often, yes. We offer same-day visits whenever a technician and parts are available in your area. If today is full, we book the earliest time that suits you, and calling early in the day gives you the best chance.

My freezer is cold but the fridge is warm. What's wrong?

Cold air isn't getting from the freezer into the fridge. A stopped evaporator fan, or coils iced over by a defrost fault, are the usual causes. Unplugging the fridge for a day can bring it back for a while, but the failed part still needs replacing.

Is it worth replacing a refrigerator compressor?

Often, yes, on a good fridge that's otherwise in good shape, especially French-door, counter-depth and built-in models. We test the compressor and give you the full price first, so you can compare it with a new fridge.

What should I do with my food while I wait?

Move the most perishable food to a cooler with ice or to a freezer that's still cold, and keep the fridge door closed as much as possible. A closed fridge stays cold for a few hours.

Do you repair built-in and high-end fridges?

Yes. We repair built-in and panel-ready refrigerators, including Miele, Bosch Benchmark and KitchenAid built-ins, as well as everyday brands.

Do you repair freezers, bar fridges and wine coolers?

Yes. We repair upright and chest freezers, bar fridges and wine coolers, as well as full-size refrigerators.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Our repairs carry a warranty of up to 12 months, depending on the repair.
