Thermador Freedom Column Repair
A Freedom column is a complete appliance on its own, with its own controls and cooling system, even when three of them stand side by side behind one run of panels. So when one column warms up, we diagnose that column only. A failing freezer column doesn’t mean disturbing the fresh-food unit next to it.

How we diagnose a Freedom column
We start with that column’s condenser and fans, then its defrost system and door seal. Flush doors get a hinge and alignment check as well: a Freedom Hinge door that sits a few millimetres proud of the cabinetry can leak cold air all day without anyone noticing.
Thermador Built-in French-Door & Bottom-Freezer Repair
Unlike a column, a combination unit shares one cooling system between the fridge and the freezer. That’s why the usual Thermador complaint here is a fresh-food section that warms while the freezer stays frozen: cold air isn’t reaching the top, most often because a fan has stopped or frost has blocked the air path.

Good to know
A frosted evaporator often clears after a manual defrost, then comes back within weeks. That pattern points to a defrost heater, sensor or control fault, which is what we repair.
How we diagnose a Thermador combination unit
We read the frost pattern on the evaporator, test the fan motor and the defrost circuit, then check the drain line that carries defrost water away. On ice maker calls we trace the water path from the inlet valve to the fill tube before condemning the ice maker itself.
Thermador Sealed-System & Compressor Repair
Replacing a built-in Thermador means finding a matching unit, refitting custom panels and sometimes adjusting the cabinetry around it. A sealed-system repair keeps the appliance you already have, and we do it in your kitchen with the unit pulled forward onto protected floors.

How we diagnose a Thermador that won’t cool
Once the fans, defrost and airflow test fine, we measure the compressor’s start circuit and running current, then pressure-test the system to find any leak. You get a written price first; the repair itself means recovering the refrigerant, brazing in new parts, fitting a new filter-drier, evacuating and recharging by weight.

Costs people forget when they replace
- Matching the suite: a new model can differ in finish, handle style or panel reveal from your other Thermador appliances.
- Damage risk: pulling a built-in out of tight cabinetry and fitting a new one can mark floors, counters and cabinet faces.
- Water and power: a new model may need its water line or outlet moved to suit a different layout.
- Waste: a built-in that can be repaired is a large appliance kept out of the landfill.

Do Thermador Freedom columns share one cooling system?
No. Each fresh-food, freezer or wine column is a complete appliance with its own controls and cooling system. That's why one column can fail while the others keep working, and why we diagnose them one at a time.
Can you repair a column without damaging my custom panels?
Yes. We protect the panels and the floor, pull the column forward only as far as the repair needs, and set it back flush with the cabinetry.
Why is my Thermador fridge warm while the freezer is frozen?
On a built-in combination unit the fridge and freezer share one cooling system, so a stopped fan or frost blocking the air path warms the fridge first. A warm column is a different case, because each column cools itself.
Do you repair Thermador wine columns?
Yes. A wine column is a separate unit with its own controls and cooling, so we can repair it without disturbing the fresh-food or freezer columns beside it.
Is a sealed-system repair worth it on a built-in Thermador?
Usually. A repair keeps your panels and cabinetry exactly as they are, and you get a written price before any work starts, so you can compare it with replacing the unit.
Is it worth repairing a Thermador refrigerator?
Usually, yes. A new 24-inch Freedom column lists at $12,789 in Canada before panels and installation, so fans, defrost parts, controls and even sealed-system repairs normally cost far less than replacing it.
How do I know if my Thermador needs a sealed-system repair?
If the fans run, defrost works and the condenser is clean but the unit still won't cool, the compressor or the refrigerant circuit is the likely cause. We confirm it with tests before quoting.
