Frigidaire oven error F10 – Overheating warning
The F10 error on a Frigidaire oven means the control board has detected overheating. This isn’t a code to ignore or work around — here’s why, and what actually causes it.
Why F10 is a safety code, not just an inconvenience
An oven that overheats beyond its set temperature can scorch food, damage internal wiring and insulation, and in rare cases pose a fire risk. Unlike a lot of appliance error codes, this isn’t one to reset and keep using “for now” — treat it as a sign to stop using the oven until it’s checked.
The most common cause we see: the self-clean cycle
Self-cleaning cycles run at extremely high temperatures (typically 800°F+) to burn off residue, and that heat stresses the same components responsible for the F10 error — the temperature sensor, thermostat, and control board relay. If your F10 error started appearing after running a self-clean cycle, that’s very likely the trigger. We recommend limiting self-clean to a few times a year rather than as a regular cleaning routine.
Other causes
- Faulty temperature sensor — sends incorrect readings, causing the oven to keep heating past its target.
- Stuck relay on the control board — physically stuck “on,” so the heating element never gets the signal to stop.
- Shorted or damaged wiring — sends false signals to the control board.
- Failed thermostat — can’t properly regulate the heating cycle.
What to do right now
Turn the oven off and unplug it. Let it cool completely before doing anything else. A temperature sensor can be tested with a multimeter if you’re comfortable doing so, but a stuck relay or damaged control board isn’t a safe DIY repair — those involve mains voltage and the exact component responsible for regulating heat.
