Refrigerator not cooling? Don’t panic!
A refrigerator that’s not cooling properly can quickly turn into a disaster with spoiled food and drinks. But before you panic and start shopping for a new fridge, there are a few common issues you can troubleshoot.
How to troubleshoot a non-cooling fridge
1. Check the thermostat
Make sure your fridge’s thermostat is set to around 37°F (3°C).
2. Clean the condenser coils
Dust and dirt on the coils can prevent your fridge from cooling efficiently. Clean them every 6 months.
3. Check the door seals
Test the seals by closing a piece of paper in the door. If it slips out easily, the seals may need cleaning or replacement.
4. Inspect the evaporator fan
This fan circulates cold air inside the fridge. If it’s faulty, replace it.
5. Test the start relay
The relay helps the compressor start up. If it’s faulty, the fridge may stop cooling.
Pro tip
Cleaning your condenser coils and checking the door seals every six months can prevent most cooling issues.
