Samsung washer error UB – Unbalanced load detection

Getting a UB error on your Samsung washer once in a while is normal — getting it on every load isn’t. Here’s how to tell the difference and what each scenario means.

First time, or very occasional

This is almost always about that specific load. Pause the cycle, open the door, redistribute the clothes evenly around the drum, and restart. Nine times out of ten this clears it, and it’s not a sign anything is actually wrong with the machine.

Happening on most loads, regardless of how they’re packed

If you’re being careful about load size and distribution and still getting UB errors regularly, the machine itself is telling you something. The two most common mechanical causes:

• Worn or loose suspension rods — these are what keep the drum stable during spin. Once they wear out, even a well-balanced load can trigger imbalance errors.
• Faulty hall sensor — this component tells the washer how fast the drum is spinning. A failing sensor can flag a perfectly balanced load as unbalanced.

Happening along with excessive shaking or walking

If the UB error is paired with the washer visibly shaking, moving across the floor, or making loud banging noises during spin, stop using it. This usually means worn shock absorbers or a drum bearing issue — continuing to run the machine in this state risks further damage to the drum assembly and, in some cases, water line connections.
