Why your refrigerator is making noise? Common causes and easy fixes

While all refrigerators make some noise, certain sounds can indicate issues that might need attention. Here are some common noises and what they might mean.

1. Rattling or vibrating sounds

This might mean something is loose or that the fridge isn’t level. Vibrations could be due to the drain pan at the bottom of the fridge.

– Check for loose parts. Examine the back of the fridge to see if any parts are loose. Tightening a screw may be all that’s needed.

– Level the fridge. A fridge that isn’t level can vibrate against the floor, causing noise. Adjust the feet at the bottom for better stability.

2. Buzzing or humming

A soft hum is normal, but loud buzzing could signal an issue with the compressor or ice maker.

– Check the ice maker. If you don’t have a water line connected to your ice maker, switch it off to prevent unnecessary noise.

– Give the compressor space. Make sure the back of your fridge isn’t pushed against the wall, as it needs airflow to prevent overheating.
